Education

Childhood Education
(KG to Secondary School)

Quality pre-primary education is the foundation of a child’s journey: every stage of education that follows relies on its success. It is an important time in children’s lives because it is when they first learn how to interact with others, including peers, teachers and parents, and begin to develop interests that will stay with them throughout their lives.

More than two million children, or over 70 per cent, are out of school in South Sudan, putting at risk their futures and the future of the country. Some of the out-of-school children are living in pastoral communities, moving with their cattle and are not able to attend regular classes. The largest group of out-of-school children in South Sudan are girls. Poverty, child marriage and cultural and religious views all hinder girls’ education.

In the poor conditions of Ethiopia, Sudan, and South Sudan, our schools strive to follow what Don Bosco called his ‘Preventive System’ where young people are confident that they are respected and valued by teachers and leaders who provide them with a friendly, healthy and stimulating learning environment, supporting and encouraging them to make the best choices and achieve their full potential, in the context of the Gospel’s teachings.

What higher education is?

  • Higher education is third level education after you leave school. It takes places at universities and Further Education colleges and normally includes undergraduate and postgraduate study. Higher education gives you the chance to study a subject you are interested in and can boost your career prospects and earning potential.
  • On June 2010 ECUSTA (Ethiopian Catholic University Saint Thomas Aquino) request Mary Help College to collaborate in upgrading the Mary Help College of Zway to a constituent College of ECUSTA offering a Degree program.
  • One year later, on June 2011, ECUSTA – Mary Help College – Zway Campus, received the accreditation of Information Technology Degree Program from HERQA and the Degree Program began in September 2011.

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology Program aims to provide graduates with sufficient knowledge and skills for general employment, highly skilled careers, entry into postgraduate program and research as well as for life-long learning. It enables the individuals to pair responsibilities, which require great autonomy, with professional decision-making.

The aim of the Department of Information Technology at ECUSTA-MH is to provide IT graduates with the skills and knowledge to take on appropriate professional positions in Information Technology and with the right combination of knowledge and practical, hands-on expertise to take care of both an organization’s information technology infrastructure and the people who use it.

IT specialists assume responsibility for selecting hardware and software products which are appropriate for an organization, integrating those products with organizational needs and infrastructure, and installing, customizing, and maintaining those applications for the organization’s computer users. Examples of these responsibilities include the installation of networks; network administration and security; the design of web pages; the development of multimedia resources; the installation of communication components; the oversight of email systems; and the planning and management of the technology lifecycle by which an organization’s technology is maintained, upgraded, and replaced.

The Salesian School, Oratory, and Youth Center is a manifold and varied offering which responds to the most significant aspects for the developmental process of the young and where they most come alive.
