Hello, my name is Esther. I would like to share with you a wonderful experience that I had during the camp, organized by the Salesian Sisters in Gumbo. Before that, I would like to tell you that I was one of the 6 leaders chosen to help in the camp. We had a beautiful and enjoyable time during our training for four days, so as to be prepared fully to give what we receive with an open heart, mind, and inactions, together with one of the Salesian sisters who guided us all through our training days and so also during the camp.
Our camp started on the 15th of January 2020 and lasted for one week. All the 72 young girls registered, got so much to experience in their life all through the camp. They made new friends, learned new songs and played new games. They offered prayers to Jesus through the intercession of Blessed Laura Vicuna on her feast day and so also many of them wished to be little Laura someday.
The children too learned how to pray through the sessions and catechism and the sacraments animated by different speakers, that provided guidelines in their lives, and so many things that were enjoyable and interesting among other sessions like craft, songs, and dances.
The beautiful and exciting moment for all of us was the overnight campfire on the eve of the feast of Laura. We sang and danced around the fire and prayed our rosary and then sat for dinner. We were happy that Sr. Ruth visited us in this moment with the other sisters. After dinner, we had a quick wash and were ready to sleep with the ‘sound of music’ movie.
The feast of Laura was beautiful, in procession we entered the church with the flowers in hand singing ‘flower of the Andes ….’ the liturgy well animated by all of us. The whole day was but just a celebration with games and beautiful words.
Lastly, I would like to give a big thanks to all the Salesian sisters for the wonderful time that the Salesian sisters have provided for us during our overnight camp on the eve of the feast of Blessed Laura Vicuna. Thank you, Sr. Ruth, for visiting us and encouraging us to be like Laura. We will try and be one day like Laura.
