Sr. Giovanna BIANCHI
In Addis Ababa, we are participating in an inter-congregational project that has two purposes.
The first is to create a network with different congregations in order to give a better answer to the most vulnerable young people, especially migrants and internally displaced young women. The second is to provide the young girls with the skills needed to improve their living conditions and to prevent them from going back to the street with their children.
Each congregation works according to its own charism and the beneficiaries can take advantage of the services that each congregation offers.
We have many poor women enrolled in our courses such as IT (Information Technology), Dressmaking, and Caregiving. On Sunday, the community decided to visit these poor women so that we could know their lives and give concrete help to them. When we visited their houses, we found the situation in which they were living a cold, humidity, rain entered in the broken shelter. And they were with their small babies who are around one year old. We felt that God was asking us to take care of these poorest ones.
Sr. Aleksandra with the community has prepared the double beds, mattresses, wardrobes, and a bathroom. It has already been a month since ten women with their ten babies have lived in our house. They bring much joy to us.
With the help of an Ethiopian person who is a manager of a restaurant chain, eight mothers have already found a job and the others are still taking the short courses of study in our mission.
As we are hosting these babies, these babies are welcomed to the Caregiving course. The students in the Caregiving course have practical training with our small babies. They are beautiful gifts for the students. Not only for the students but also for the babies themselves as well, through the caregiving course, they are given good care. We are very happy to serve Jesus in the poorest women and babies.
