It was a great joy for us – FMAs and all the members of St. Bakhita Educational Community in Tonj to express our Thanks to Sr. Ruth.
Our thanksgiving to Sr. Ruth started with the vigil of our festival day when the Salesian family: Salesian Fathers and Brother, Missionary Sister of Mary Help of Christian Sisters gathered together for evening prayer and sharing meals. Words of thanks were expressed by Fathers and Sisters toward Sr. Ruth for the service and care she has been showing for the mission and for our brothers and sisters in Tonj.
Our gratitude continued on the next day. From early morning, the big gate was opened wide to welcome different people who came to St. Bakhitwho a mission. The day started with a thanksgiving Mass which was celebrated by Fr. James – SDB whose homily helped us to show our gratitude to God, to Sr. Ruth, and to one another for living our daily life in our own ways. Our day continued with the program which was prepared by various groups: different chiefs from nearby villages who were involved in the agriculture projects; the women from the garden under the supervision of Sr. Miriam, the construction workers, teachers, students, and many girls who attended the short courses. They carried with them chickens, goats, pumpkins, papayas, bananas, and many other gifts. Songs, dances, drama, and speeches were presented.
The representative of the groups gave speeches that shared the details of many great things Sr. Ruth has been doing for Tonj mission. The joy was apparent on their faces, and the happiness was amplified with songs and dance. Sr. Ruth’s participation in the women’s traditional dance has brought much joy. Our day ended when we shared meals together. The Eritrean contractor and workers had prepared their special meals for Sr. Ruth and the community. Sr. Ruth also shared her joy to be among us on this special occasion. She thanked everyone and invited us to continue to unite in Jesus’ love to care for and serve our brothers and sisters in need in this mission.
We gave thanks to our loving God who provides everything for us through the leadership of Sr. Ruth. We thank our loving Mother Mary, who always accompanies us and protecting us with her motherly care.
We wish you all the best and do pray for you in your new mission!!!
