Sr. Mai Van FMA
Serving for a bright future of this great mission we can’t work alone. Our hands are broader and longer with the help of others. Keeping in mind this reality, we choose to go far in collaboration with students, teachers, parents, and workers.
As an educational community, we share our mission, vision, and Salesian charism. Our community organized a formation day for all the teachers at High School, Primary school, ALP, and Kindergarten. The day started with a prayer guided by Sr. Lavita which helped the group to be a light and to share the light with one another. Candles were passed from one to another while praying and bringing peace to others. Then Sr. Elizabeth introduced the program of the day and gave time for Sr. Claudia to guide the group on the meaning of, and how to give morning talks to the students at the school assembly. In her unique way and in a short time, she concluded with a meaningful message to all
“when we practice small, good habits daily we will become a wise person with great good habits one day”. After that, Sr. Elizabeth led the group to understand more about the rules and regulations of the schools. She explained clearly how to make a Salesian environment in our schools; how to deal with others in the Salesian style. Icebreaking was led by Sr. Mai Van to warm the room, singing, laughing, and clapping hands with lively games and songs. The Salesian Spirituality was deepened more by Sr. Lavita. Her knowledge and experiences in the Salesian charism enlightened the teachers. She helped the group to learn to live the Salesian lifestyle from the gate to every corner of the school compounds, especially in the way of a teacher, mother, sister, and friend for everyone like Mother Mazarello. The group then enjoyed the tea break together then moved forward to the next part of the program.
Sr. Mai Van changed the sharing by showing the group some short video clips about Don Bosco, and how he had lived the Preventive System. She guided the group to understand the preventive system with the three pillars “Reason, Religion and loving-kindness” explaining the main points of the Salesian educational method: constancy assistance, family spirit, encouraging words. She invited the group to share what they loved and have learned from Don Bosco. One by one they took turns to share their thoughts and love of Don Bosco. It was a very touching moment for everyone. When it was time for us to have meals together, Sr. Elizabeth served us with joy and fervent. We joked, laughed, and enjoyed the meals, and got ready for the afternoon session. Sr. Claudia prepared everything for some activities to understand more about the age development characteristics of students from KG to High school. She helped the group to better understand the characteristics of different aged groups and the method to deal with them. It was very helpful for us as educators. Different activities were conducted, and we forgot that the time to conclude the day had come. We closed the day with a brief evaluation of the program and a plan for the next time to meet together. It was a very special day for all of us. A family spirit filled our day. May the Lord bless us and bless our effort to build this mission as a house of the love of the Lord.
